Audemars Piguet is a leading Swiss watch maker with a history of over 100 years. The company makes luxury watches with complex movements, jewelry watches and jewelry. It is based in Switzerland, has just 12 boutiques globally and produces around 26,000 high-end watches annually. The company has over 130 years of history and was founded in 1875 by Jules Audemars and Edward-August Piguet in Vallee de Joux, Switzerland. The company remains a family business and family members remain managers today. Audemars was in charge of making component parts for movements while Piguet was the repasseur, in charge of making the final regulation of the watches and finally sales and finances. In 1883-1894 Audemars Piguet make progress in chiming watches. In 1889 the company opened its first branch in Geneva and started its own in-house watch component production. The company launched the world's thinnest watch ever at 1.32mm in 1925. Audemars Piguet's business grew in the 1940s and 1950s. In 1972 the company along with Jeager-LeCoulture introduced the Royal Oak which is said to have created the market for stainless steel luxury watches. The Royal Oak has an iconic octagon bezel with eight hexagonal screws. The watch is said to have been a true revolution in the watchmaking world. In the 1980s the watch maker continued to introduce revolutionary watches, launching the first self-winding ultra-thin watch in 1986, the first watch with a second time zone and Star Wheel, with a sector hour display on three sapphire discs. In 2005-2007 it ramped up its Millenary watch collection with oval cases, off-center dials and added new models such as the Mellenary MC12.
